New week, new city. And not just any city, but NYC! We really felt we are back in the North, in the morning the weather was even chilly (+15). And YES, that is cold after weeks of average +30 and NO, we have no idea how not freeze when we return in less than a week. We've heard some rough rumours from home in The Great White North.
The first thing to see in the first morning, was naturally The Staten Island and The Statue of Liberty. We headed right to the subway after we had breakfast and took the E-line to the WTC. On our way to ferry we passed by The Ground Zero and the new building, maybe the highest of all, The Freedom Tower.
The line to the ferry wasn't very long, but again it took time to first buy the ticket elsewhere, then queue to the security check (same as in e airports) and then actually hop aboard. We "sailed" to the Staten Island around the statue, so we took about thousand's pictures on the way. The journey didn't take very long and after twenty minutes we hopped off to the shore of the Staten Island. Island was nice, with 9/11 memorial place and of course the Statue. Again, we took many pictures and enjoyed lovely weather in the sea wind. Then we hopped in to the ferry, which took us back to NY with a stop on Ellis Island.
In the lower Manhattan, the whole Financial District-area was grouded; tomorrow it's going to be a huge event for it is 9/11. There were tourists, locals and TV-channel's cars everywhere. Already at noon it was almost impossible to get back to the subway. But we made it and after a short break at the hotel, we headed to the Fashion District.
We walked down 8th St and the surrounding blocks, found exellent bargains and visited a huge Macy's department store. Suddenly it was evening already; we quickly changed clothes and rushed to dinner (= first frozen drinks and then some snacks).
